How old does a shitzu start coming into heat, and does a stud ever get too old to breed?

My female is about 8 months, and my male is 6 or 7 years old, When or WILL I ever expect them to have puppies? Is he too old?

She is much too young to be bred at this time, even if she comes into season.  For her health, she should not be bred before she is two years old.  So even when she does come in season, keep them separated for at least three weeks.
