  1. More of a comfort level for you. To say that any child, or adult for that matter, is ever completely safe, is false. You need to trust her to know how to do what is right. But you also need to be comfortable with it.

  2. Depends on the area you live.

Only let her do it when you are happy that she can cross roads etc safely.

  3. There is no certain age. As long as she is ok with doing it and she isnt walking alone I dont see why there would be a problem.

    Good Luck

  4. Depends on the neighborhood and the distance. Also their eduaction and home knowledge. Over 10 years ols.

  5. It would depend on his/her maturity-the distance-all of that. Try not to push the child into it -it could be kinda scary for the little one. =7=is a good age.

  6. its up to you but age *8-10 is good time to start

  7. I agree with Marget K no matter the age it's not safe. it's a sad to say but true your daughter should at least be walking with 2 other people if she is going to be walking.

  8. No matter how old she is, your child should not walk to school by herself.   She should be walking with another child, preferably two, so that there is someone to run for help if there is a problem, and so that unsavory characters will avoid a situation that is complicated by extra children and potential witnesses.   It's a dangerous world that we live in.  There is safety in numbers.

Assuming the buddy system, it really depends on her level of maturity.  Is she likely to have hysterics over a skinned knee?   If so, then she's not quite there, yet.   Can she be trusted to go straight to her destination without dawdling or side trips?    Can she be trusted to resist any bad ideas that her companions come up with, and stay on the straight an narrow?    Would she fall for the "can you help find my puppy" line?   How far does she have to walk, and does she have to cross any dangerous intersections?     Does she have or can you get a cell phone so that you can check on her if, for any reason, you are not sure where she is, or so that she can call for help if there's a problem?   Is she old enough to know how to use a cell phone?   Will she be walking with older kids who can keep an eye on her?

These are all questions that I would consider when deciding whether to let her walk to school.
