  1. 18 for shot guns and rifles, but a hand gun you have to be 21...this is the legal way

  2. It is depends on which state you live in, most states you must be 18 but their are a few where you must be 21. The interesting thing about this is their is an age limit to purchase a gun but their is not an age limit to carry or use a gun.

  3. Depends on the type of gun. Long guns can generally be purchased by federal law at 18, handguns require 21. but local laws may differ. pls call your local police to find out exactly.

  4. to rightfully/legally own a rifle you have to be 18, a hand gun you have to be 21

  5. There are some states that say u must be 21 before you can get a handgun, but if you buy it privately you only need to be 18.

  6. u can get one at about any age but u want one legally either 18 or 21

  7. It depends on the state. There is no age limit in Vermont because they don't have any gun control laws and don't want any. It is 18 in my state for any gun.

  8. 18 were i live but a handgun 21

  9. You may OWN any firearm in the U.S. at ANY age. You may not buy (store or dealer requiring transfer or registration) a rifle under the age of 18 or a handgun under the age of 21.

  10. I agree it is 18 for a rifle and 21 for a handgun here in Texas

  11. Each state sets its own rules for purchase and ownership.

The federal laws prohibit anyone under the age of 18 from buying a rifle or shotgun from a federally licensed dealer.

The federal laws prohibit anyone under the age of 21 from buying a handgun from a federally licensed dealer.

The states can set the age limit for sales from non-federally licensed sources (other citizens, family members, etc).

In addition, the age limit to own may be different that the age limit to purchase. In most states you must be 18 to purchase a firearm but your parents (or somebody else, with your parent's permission) could give you one as a gift regardless of your age.

  12. In the United States of America

A individual must be 18 years of age to purchase a Rifle. (weapon with at least a 16 inch barrel)

A individual must be 21 to purchase a Pistol.

most barrels ranging from 2 inches to 6 inches (there are exceptions)

A individual depending upon the State in which they reside my get a concealed carry permit as well at the age of 21.

  13. US Federal law states you must be 18 to purchase and own a long gun, 18 to own and purchase a handgun. However a dealer (FFL holder) is not allowed to sell you a handgun unless you are 21.

The State you live in is allowed to have more stringent laws but not allowed to have less stringent laws.

In other words, your State may not allow anyone under 21 to own a firearm.
