  1. usually 3 1/2 - 4

  2. it is better in the age of 4! if 3, juz a little too early for ur children by having a pressure!!

  3. at my daughters school there are 2 pre-k classes..pre-k3 and pre-k4  one for 3 yrolds and one for 4's. the prek3's will go on to prek4 next year then kindergarten. mostly its like day care for the 3 year olds..lots of nap and free time but also with structured hands on learning of your basic colors -beginning numbers and letters-prek 4 kids get one nap and 2 recesses-they learn through games and show and tells, stories and also begin what the school calls "sight words" which are common easy words-out-in up and on.any kid can be held back or moved ahead a grade with the teachers opinion. most schools will schedule you for a visit- to learn more just call and ask if they are holding any open houses(most do) Everyone will explain everything you want to know-they realize that its new and scary for you.

  4. There are some programs that are federally or state funded that you would not need to pay for but your child will most likely need to be 4 by the cut off date of your school district.  These programs will provide transportation whether they are in your school or elsewhere.

There are many "private" daycares/preschools out there.   If you have a choice I would suggest you start calling those who do preschool only.  Most of them will offer a 3 year old class or a 4  year old class.  There are also programs within day care centers but go and observe.  I've come across many that really haven't done the best they could...but on the other hand there has been some excellent preschool programs within day care.  You just need to ask around your area ...give them a call...go in an observe and ask questions.

    Good luck.
