My husband and I would like to put our son in a bed by September or October before the Christmas rush. He will be about 22 months by then. Just wondering if that is an ok age to start him.

  1. this really depends on your child.  If you have been co-sleeping with him this entire time, start off slow.  the sudden switch is too hard on lil ones, and you both will have many many sleepless nights.  If your lil guy has been in a crib, we found with our runts, once they become lil escape artists it's time for a toddler bed.  Just remember to properly set up a baby gate in the lil ones room for those midnight awakenings.  Do a quick crawl though to see if there is anything that can be a potential hazard.  Its also a good idea to set up a bed before hand so it's not a new scary object.  my 19 month old daughter has had her toddler bed up since she was about 12 months, and she's been sleepin in it on her own choice since she was about 15 months old.  like with handling all aspects of toddlers, patients is the key.  good luck!

  2. I think it should be ok as long as it is a toddler bed with rails.  I guess it depends on your son.  I have a feeling we are going to have a tough time moving our son anytime soon because he is ALL over the place during the night.  We won't have a choice once our new baby gets here and we will have to move our son when he is about 22 months as well.

  3. 22 months is a good age just make sure the bed has high sides. My son got a race car bed when he turned 2 and he loves it. It has high sides so he can't fall out but it's low to the ground enough to where he can get in and out on his own with no problems.

  4. If you mean when is he ready for a regular bed vs. the crib. My measure has always been when they can crawl out of the crib with no problem, they are ready.

  5. There's really no set age, but parents typically start putting them in a bed around 2 years of age - provided it is a toddler bed and/or has side bars in case he's an active sleeper and tries to roll out.

So, 22 months is right around the mark and should be fine.

  6. When they are ready is the correct time.

  7. My boys were both in beds by that age.

I never bothered to get a rail or guard for the side of the bed either- just found that they naturally only fell out once or twice before they realised there was nothing to lean against.

I just put some pillows on the floor for the first couple of weeks just in case.

    Good luck!

  8. there's no set age. I actually put my son in a toddler bed when he was 10months. but that was only because he was in the bed right next to mine. Now he's 13 months and will climb into his bed by himself and sometime will take a nap in bed without being told or put to bed.

A helpful hint: some kids tend to twist around when they're sleeping and if they're in a toddler bed with only the attached sides, they can fall off. Watch your son sleep and if he rolls alot or twists sideways, i would recommend getting the extra siderails so it's like a crib with lower sides (these are removable)

  9. I started my daughter in her own be when she started bouncing around in her crib I was afraid she would fall out of her crib. 22 months is plenty old enough to put him in a bed. I tink my daughter was 16months. It is possible that he will fall out of his bed so make sure its somewhat low to theground or you have good pading on the floor. My daughter would fall out sometimes but she nevr got hurt or eve woke up.

  10. too young my guard was a clip on and when it fell off i would fall on top of it and it hurt so bad...but if u get a build in 1 it souldent be a problem

  11. My daughter was 20 months and my son was 28. I dont think there is any right time for everyone- when he is ready just gently ease him into it. My daughter was really good but my son tried for 2 weeks- back to our room on a mattress by our futon bed for 4 moths- then wanted to sleep on a bed. Good Luck!!!

  12. my son is 15mths and has been in a bed for 3 weeks. It depends on the child and whether or not you think he is ready for it, my son was eager to have his own bed and jumped right into it right away. Haven't had many problems either.

but most toddler beds recommend no one under 15mths and no more than 50lbs (in the toddler bed that is).

  13. yes any time you think is right but just use a bed guard and a baby gate on his bedroom door.Be prepared though as he wont stay in the bed!!

  14. I've read it has to do more with height than age, but I can't remember the number.

  15. That age is fine.  Is your toddler trying to climb out of the crib yet?  If so, it's time to transition him out of the crib.  IF the bedroom is upstairs, I would suggest putting a baby gate at the steps up stairs if you haven't already.  Be prepared for him testing you the first week by trying to keep getting out of his bed.  It's like a new freedom.  Good Luck
