How old is Lebanon?

I'm not asking how long it was inhabited for- I want to know when it was "founded" and began to call itself Lebanon and the people Lebanese.

  2. The name Lebanon has been found in three of the twelve tablets of the Epic of Gilgamesh (2900 BC), the texts of the library of Ebla (2400 BC), and 71 times in the Old Testament. The name is even recorded in Ancient Egyptian as Rmnn, where r stood for Semitic l.

    In modern times, France received a mandate over this territory and separated out the region of Lebanon in 1920. France granted this area independence in 1943.

After WW I, when the prime aim of dismantling Turkish Ottoman Empire was accomplished, its territories were parceled out amongst West Europeans who were the victors. France got 'Syria Lebanon' for its share. Lebanon was separated from Syria in 1920.

  4. it is a very ancient name used by the bible to call the mountains to the north of the land of Israel. this name originate from an ancient Canaanite language so it is pretty old knowing that the canaanites lived there since around 3000BC.

    there are records showing the existence of a semi autonomous province since the early ottoman occupation of the area during the 1500s. this is the earliest that I can find of a legal entity called Lebanon
