  1. 132.

    He died in 1941.

The train is 69 years old though.

  2. If the Silver Jubilee Train was still running today, it would have been in service for 73 years. The Silver Jubilee was a named train of the London and North Eastern Railway (LNER). It commenced service on September 30, 1935, the train travelling between London King's Cross and Newcastle. It did this at an average speed of 67mph, taking four hours to complete the journey.

The train was made in the year of King George V's 'Silver Jubilee', and was painted silver throughout. It was composed of two twin-set articulated coaches, and one triple-set; seven coaches in all. The train set a new standard for speed in Britain, at that time. Service continued until the outbreak of the Second World War in 1939.

  3. In 1937 the 100th Gresley Pacific was built by the London and North Eastern Railway, and the railway honoured her designer by giving the locomotive his name. Sir Nigel Gresley, now bearing the British Railways number 60007, was saved from scrapping in 1966 by a small group of determined men, who set up the A4 Preservation Society. This became The A4 Locomotive Society Ltd, and has recently undergone a further evolution into The Sir Nigel Gresley Locomotive Preservation Trust Ltd. (The name of the A4 Locomotive Society Ltd lives on as the subsidiary company which operates the locomotive for the Trust.)
