  1.   The sun is likely about 4.5 billion years old with a maximum life span of about 10 billion years.

The sun and the planets formed at roughly the same time and by the same method.  Earth is 4.5 billion years old plus or minus a couple hundred million years.  The sun is probably just a tiny bit older since the planetary accretion was still going on when the sun ignited and continued for a bit.
