  1. look it up on google or a VERY updated encyclopedia? or ask a nature person who is very familiar with trees...

  2. Of all the long-lived characters in the Bible none beat Methuselah, who topped out at an impressive 969 years. But not even Methuselah holds a candle to the oldest living thing on earth: a bristlecone pine tree approximately 4,725 years old. The so-called Methuselah Tree, discovered in 1953 by the tree researcher Edmund Schulman, has amazed scientists and nature lovers ever since.

The longest-living members of the bristlecone species exist in harsh conditions in the upper reaches of California's White Mountains. With less than twelve inches of annual precipitation and a nutrient-poor soil called dolomite, the rocky terrain looks more like a lifeless Martian plain than home to earth's oldest living organisms.

Yet it is precisely the barrenness of the landscape that makes possible the trees' longevity. Since practically nothing else can thrive in such conditions, there is little competition for water and nutrients. And since the trees are spaced far apart, there exists little groundcover from falling needles that may give rise to damaging fires. Furthermore, during droughts bristlecones enter a dormant state, basically shutting down until the sparse rains continue. Finally, the density and highly resinous quality of bristlecone wood provides a barrier against insects and disease. In short, these hardy trees have evolved to endure at all costs.

Due to their Spartan existence, bristlecones are relatively short and squat, topping out at sixty feet. The oldest bristlecones may in fact seem barely alive: Methuselah has only one cone-bearing branch. Yet that branch is very much alive, as Methuselah has been for almost 5000 years.

  4. The oldest tree in the world is the called the Methuselah Tree and it is a Great Basin bristlecone pine (Pinus aristata var. longaeva, also called simply Pinus longaeva).  This wind-blasted, gnarled tree is 4,767 years old, and is located in California's White Mountains.  Careful study of growth rings from a core sample yielded the tree's age.  There are dozens of other trees in the same general area which are almost as old.  There are several trees in Patriarch Grove at the Ancient Bristlecone Pine Forest, but scientists have not actually publicized the exact identity of Methuselah, in an effort to protect it.  Most of the bristlecone pine trees of this high-altitude grove, which is over 8,000 feet above sea level, are actually quite small and stunted, and appear to be just barely alive.

  6. 8,000 YEARS

  7. Try Bristlecone Pine.  Sierra Nevada Mountain Range in California.

Problem is that to count the number of tree rings, you've got to cut down the tree.  So, they can only estimate based on the age of trees that are nearby.  But, it is probably a good estimate.

There are Redwood trees on exhibit that have enough yearly growth rings to predate the Birth of Jesus, or if you prefer, to predate the conquest of Jerusalem by the Romans.

Google it, or search on your internet provider web site.
