How old is too old for expired soda?

Question

I bought a bottle and a can of Sprite out of the machines in my dorm on my way back to my room ($1.25 + 75 cents. I hate change.) and out of curiosity looked at the expiration dates. The can expired a little less than a month ago. The bottle, however, expired May 7... 2007.

My question to you is this: did I waste my money? Is the bottle too old to drink? Also, how old IS too old for expired soda?

(the can tastes fine, by the way.)

Soda has a shelf life of about 6 months and they are usually good 90-120 days after that. If a soda is too old the problem is that it will be flat. But if you got carbonation you are good to go. Enjoy your soda.

ok..having 10 years exp. in the soda industry....regular or sugar sodas last for 39 weeks......diet sodas last for 13 weeks. soda in the can will taste fine up to about 3weeks after that it tases like there is dirt in it....bottled soda will not taste as good after the expriation date because the P.E.T. bottle is pourous so carbontion leaks out after some time...also the soda is subject to sunlight which breaks down the sugars and the asparthame in the soda...wich is why you dont want to buy a 2 liter from a window display...tases yucky..

anyways.2 or 3 weeks after exp. is fine :)

The bottle/can should have a date - whatever the date is it should be good for several years past the date, unless it has been exposed to direct sunlight.   In that case it will develop an odd flavor .  Basically what that means is the the energy from the sunlight has accelerated the oxidation process of the compound used to make up the flavors of the soda.  

Flavors most effected by this will be your citrus and colas, which are derived from citrus oils.

It's too old if it says it's expired.

cans are alright,though I wouldnt take chances with the bottle
