  1. Most rental agencies in Europe say 23 although if you find some really small-independent ones you can get by when only 21.

  2. This depends on the car rental company. If you want to rent a car with Budget, you need to be at least 23.

If you rent via Iriscarrentals.ie, you must be at least 21. However, drivers under 25 must have held their full license for at least 24 months prior to the date of pick up. If you are under 25, you are also subject to an insurance surcharge of 25 Euro per day and you are liable for the first 1,200 Euro of damage to the car (excess).

If you rent via Avis, you need to be at least 23 years old. here also, you will be charged a 'Young Drivers Charge' of €10.48 per day + VAT, if you are between 23 and 25.

It is worth browsing through al different sorts of car rental sites to find the best deal for you.

  3. If that's like the rest of Ireland, the minimum age limit for drivers is 23 years and the maximum is 75 years with an exception for Spanish, Portuguese and Italian drivers.

All Spanish, Portuguese or Italian drivers aged between 23 and 30 will be subject to an insurance surcharge of € 150 per day. Other age restrictions may apply to some luxury and special vehicles.

Minimum age restrictions may be reduced where renters provide their own fully comprehensive insurance cover so do not hesitate to phone the agency !
