Question:

How old should a best man be?

My fiance wants to ask his nephew to be his best man, the only problem is he's only 13. We were told that this is too young.

However we are having a pretty small wedding, and the best man won't have the responsibilities like in a larger, more traditional wedding...

Also, my maid-of-honor is 22, so would it be weird for them to be walking together?

  1. there should be no age limit on the age of the best man, however you have to look aat what you want him to do. even with small wedding the best mans still has to fufill a few dutys such as organisinng the stag night and things, carrying the rings ang making sure they get to curch.

it depends on the maturity of the best man himself and what you think he is capable of. remeber the best man is suppose to make a speach.

it has to be the groom and bride desistion, if you don't fell up to asking to to be best man you could alway ask him to be an usher!!

  2. You can have a best man of any age, the problem only comes if you also want him to be your witness.

I think the minimum age for a witness is 18, but you could just get someone else (groomsman, parents) to do that part and he just does all the other best man duties on the day.

I don't think it is a problem him walking with a 22 year old as long as you are happy with it. I bet he would think it was great!

  3. If that is what your fiance wants and there is someone else to be the witness for the marriage license then I don't see anything wrong with it.  If your maid-of-honor doesn't mind, then it's fine.  Personally, I think it's nice that he wants someone in his family to stand up for him.  Too often people use friends and then later they break up with them or lose touch and years later you're looking at wedding pictures with these virtual strangers in them.

  4. As far as I know there is no age-limit on being a best man.  There is on witnesses if in  a registry office.  But I don't see why he can't be best man.

    Good Luck

  5. there is no set age. its your wedding.

  6. He should be of legal age - just so he can sign papers

  7. Rosie R is right. He can be your best man, just not a witness.

  8. In my sister in laws wedding the best man was 7...it was his son.....I think its kinda cute that they want their son/nephew as the best man. And in her wedding they walked down the aisle separate.

  9. As old or young as you like. It will probably look cute.

  10. The age doesn't matter, there would just have to be another adult witness to sign.

It's fine to have him walk with an older MOH.
