Question:

How old should a car be when you think you should get a new one?

see my moms got a 1998 and i think she needs a new one. what should she do? its in good condition occasionally the dashboard will not work but most of the time its fine. except for the strange noises it makes when you turn. but other than that its fine. what should i tell her other than get a new car? its a stupid minivan that has no automatic things in it!

  1. Generally you should not keep a car after it is ten years old, if it is your primary or only transportation..

    After ten years it becomes hard to get replacement parts for...

    If the dash has quit working and you are hearing front end noises, it's probably time for Mom to look for something newer.....


  2. It sounds like she needs the c.v. joints replacing (a couple of hundred bucks), and to get the dash checked out, other than that, there is no need to replace a car just because her daughter thinks it is uncool or something.

    It sounds more like you need an attitude adjustment...


  3. times are tough.   keep it running.  

  4. keep the car only 4 years from production year then sell it before it start giving troubles and you can get also better re sale price.
