So I've been going to Gran Canaria with my parents for 5 years, and I definatly want to move there when I'm old enough, but how old is the minimum age to move to a different country ? Also, if there is anyone else who has moved from the UK, ect to Gran Canaria (or any other canary island) is it still as good as it seems ? I love everything about the place, even the people!! Please, this is my dream and I wanna make it reality =D

  1. You can enter as visitor or student, if your parents support you.  Otherwise, when you are 18, usually.

  2. Legal age: 18.  Perhaps younger with some sort of parental consent.

  3. 18???

  4. I think it's 18. That when you legally become an adult, right? It is in America. So I assume 18.

  5. at least 18

  6. i do not think the age is the matter but the responsibility if you can Handel it then you can go because your parents will not take care of you

  7. Are you from UK ? If you are then there is no minimum age to move !!! Its a loophole, coz you dont have to apply for citizenship and immigration papers to move around Europe if you are a citizen !So long as you parents let you you can move to another EU territory when you are 5 !!

The only reason you have to 18 to move to place like the USA is because you have to fill out a lot of paper work and often in some cases surrender your natural citizenship, which is a big step to take

  8. when i moved to UK i was 19, pretty young isnt it?

  9. You just have to be a grown up! lol

  10. • In the UK there IS a legal age for leaving home At 16, you can leave home with your parents' consent, or without it if you are leaving an abusive or neglectful situation. At 17 you can leave home without your parents' consent. http://www.childline.org.uk/Info/CrimeLa...

So legally wise you can choice with or without consent as above.

Practically wise it is completely a different matter. A holiday location always looks wonderful, but living there permanently is completely another matter. I assume as you ask about the age that you do not have college or university qualifications. This will of course narrow your options of finding employment with a decent salary

Also do you speak Spanish fluently? You can get by on English when on holiday, but living & working in another country (and staying successfully) requires you to at least understand, but usually speak fluently as well. Otherwise how are you going to manage shopping, utility bills, tax forms, local council correspondence etc etc etc (the list goes on)

Place like Gran Canaria are geared all around tourism and you may be able to pick up a bar job or something during this season, but finding long-term employment to allow you to stay year round is completely a different matter

I am not trying to put you off. Living abroad can be a wonderful experience..... but a healthy dose of reality can help you make a major mistake.

I would say (depending on your age) - discuss it with your parents, and then maybe go there one time again, but this time, instead of going as a tourist, go as if you were going to move there permanently. Look at the job market, look at accommodation availability. Talk to as many locals (who are there throughout the year and not just the holiday period). Get a 'real' idea of what it would be like first, and then you can make your decision from there.

    Best of luck

@ IrishFecker - I am not sure where you practice law (or if) but (a) your spelling (using Z's instead of S's for some words) is unusual for a Brit, and so is your legal knowledge as this is fundamentally wrong, and I only studied law as PART of my uni course, not specialised in it as a proper lawyer would

  11. i moved from the UK at the age of 16!

It is although hard to move to a different country and not know the language!

I would say go for it. u have nothing to lose but remember its different living there and is not going to be 1 big holiday!
