  1. A great jockey ! shame he was a crook , no good for punters.Give me A:P MC .COY anyday!

  2. I believe his first major win came in the Eclipse Stakes at Sandown in 1951 - aged just 16.  He rode a horse called Mystery IX.

His first Derby win was in 1954; his first Oaks win was in 1957; his first 2,000 Guineas win was in 1957; his first 1,000 Guineas win was in 1970 and his first St Leger win was in 1960.

The man is a living legend and should be knighted.

UPDATE - Sorry to correct you Son g, but Lester was never knighted: he had an OBE but was stripped of it after being sent to prison for tax evasion.

  3. I remember he was very young in the 50s but lester (keith )piggot won his first race aged 12 in 1948  on a horse called the chase at haydock -won his first derby aged 18 and then 8 more derbys

His grandfather ernie piggot won 3 grand nationals

  4. i know he won his first (epsom) Derby at 18 on a horse called "never say die".  He had been knighted but was stripped of his knighthood a few years  later when when he was found guilty of tax evasion.  Neverthless, the man is a living legend.   Long live the Piggott.  The only other jockey who I would even dare to put in the same category is Laffit Pincay who once held the record for most number of races won.  Of the present day jockeys, my favourite has always been frankie for his impeccable finish.
