I know its early, but I'm just wondering how old your little one was when you first took them out for halloween? and if they were too young for candy, what did you do for halloween? my son will be 18mths for halloween, he was just a baby for it last year, but I think it would be great if I could find some way for him to enjoy getting dressed up like the big kids this year.

  1. My daughters for their first Halloween were 10 months and for their second they were 22 months.  Their first Halloween, I dressed them up and had baskets for them, and we visited the neighbors, just really to "show off" but they had some gerber puffs for them!  Then their second year we did go out, just to a handful or so houses, and then we we got home they each got a piece of candy, a reese cup.  At each house I made sure to pick something they could eat, like reese cups.  I avoided suckers and hard candies.  We also have some Halloween parties we go to, and they enjoy that! Look like at your local zoo, mall, library, and recreation center for Halloween parties for the kids!!

  2. Mine was 18 months when we took her out (born in April)......the first year she was only about 6 months so I dressed her up cute and took her to the neighbors to show her off (I just wanted pics of the 1st Halloween).

When she was 18 months we did the real deal.......I dressed her in a cute warm ladybug costume (she picked it) and got her the plastic pumpking from wal-mart........Daddy carried the pillow case to empty it when it got to full and we took her to my MIL's house (friendly neighborhood) and let her go door to door with the big kids.....she LOVED it.....

Now, am not goingto lie to you, I ate most of the candy......but I made sure that we picked cookies, pretzels, or anything toddler friendly when we could, and she got some candy like licorice or lollipops.  But she really did love it...........18 months is a great age to start!

  3. my baby will be 12 months just weeks before halloween. so for her birthday, im having a halloween costume party. all children, and parents are encouraged to dress up and just play in the park with a few refreshments and party favors. it will be a great photo opp, and so cute to see them running around in costumes.

you could organize a party like that or look to see if a friend is having one for the kids that you could jon.

  4. My daughter was one day away from being 11 months old last Halloween. And we still took her trick-or-treating. I had a blast because I got to dress her up and show her off, and my daughter had a blast because she got to see all the other kids looking crazy...LOL.

My daughter will be one day away from being 23 months old this year, and I am most definitely taking her trick-or-treating again. This year I think we will get the concept more, plus will be able to enjoy the candy (well, a few pieces anyway).

Take your son and have a blast.

  5. My daughter was 4 months when I brought her out for her first halloween and her costume was a little butterfly and everyone loved her costume. They all said she looked too cute and adorable.

  6. my daughter had just turned one ( her birthday is oct 11) we dressed her up and took her to several house and she LOVED it..people thought she was so cute and were really considerate to give candy that she could actually eat (soft things, lollipops, ect) take your son out..youll be glad you did...he will have so much funa nd youll have fun dressing him up and taking him.  everyone loves a cute kid in a costume..youll recieve a million compliments!!

  7. My son will be 19 months old and this will be the first time he goes trick or treat.  He's all ready got his costume ready. He's going as the red M&M.  It's really cute. Last year he was about 7 months old and we dressed him up as a pumpkin but we didn't really go out with him. He basically dressed up and sat in a big plastic cauldron while we handed out candy.  He looked cute though!

For the candy issue, no kid this age needs a sack full of candy. Their system would go into shock and it's not healthy for them.  I'll probably let him have a few things he can easily eat to keep and have as an occassional treat but the rest we'll swap for a toy he really wants. That way he has something he can keep and play with rather than a mouth full of cavities and sugar shock.

We're also planning to take him on a kids hay ride and to pick pumpkins going into the season and a kids halloween party for toddlers at a local park in addition to trick or treat.

  8. my daughter was 10 months her first halloween and she went as a tootsie roll and she got candy but we ate it, last year she was 1 1/2 and she knew what to do( we worked with her to knock on the door and hold up her basket and say"trick or treat" and then say thank you) and she did a great job but after about 10 houses she was done and ready to ride on the golf cart, but i watched what she got, most people gave out lollipops, but i just watched her eat her candy and that was it.

well go to partycity.com or any other local party shop they usually have great unique ideas for costumes, go with a his fav cartoon character. let him decide what he wants that will be the best way to go.

  9. Just get him a costume and take him to three or four houses for candy, and to Grandma's, if possible. He'll be bored after 3 houses and he can have the candy, depending on what it is. If he can't have it, he won't know that's what it is, anyway and just throw it in his bucket.

  10. My son was 3 months and we dressed him up as a little bee (too cute).  We went to the mall with my niece and her parents (she was 13 months).  Me and his grandmother ate the candy for him.
