When the slave traders had time the people were sorted.  Both men and women were in high demand, especially those who appeared to be young and strong enough to work as well as have babies.  Mid to late teens would fetch a high price, with young strong and healthy males the most sought.   Mothers with young children were often taken and as awful as it may seem there were many babies born in transit.  

    Not all slaves were "kidnapped"; many were actually handed over to traders by other tribesmen.  Slavery was in existed in Africa long before the European slave traders arrived and it was not unusually for competing tribes to sell other humans to the Spanish, Portugese or Dutch, who were the largest traders in West Africa.

  3. Mainly women children and men. No elderly the rest yes of any age except old. But the vast majority were children
