  1. My 8 year old still hold my hand

  2. I have two boys, aged seven and five.  While I would love to hold hands with them more frequently, neither one of them are too interested in holding mine.  I do make my five year old take hold when crossing a parking lot or street, but have started letting my seven year old cross next to me without holding my hand.

Between the two of them the five year old is more likely to hold hands publically, but does so on very rare occasion.  However, my seven year old still likes to cuddle up on the couch when we're at home.  He's very affectionate, just not in public.

  3. My girls were about 6 when they stopped holding my hand regularly. Parking lots - the rule was they had to be next to me .. if it was the grocery store parking lot they could hold my cart.

Occasionally my daughters will still grab my hand - they are 10 and 8. I enjoy it when they do, but respect their need for independence.

  4. i am 13 and my mom try's to grab my hand alot. I always just nudge it away.

It is not that i don't want to hold her hand. it is just i want to be independant and not be seen in public acting like a baby.

I started to repel my moms hand and huges and kisses in public when i was 9 or 10. So if i where you, i would get ready to have a open hand. :o)

  5. I am 32 and I still hold my mom's hand whenever either of us are out and feeling insecure about something.  Walking at night in a strange place is an example.  Sometimes we hold each other's hands when crossing and icy patch on the sideway or street.  It is a way to stay close and in touch with the other person so that is how I am teaching my kids.

  6. My oldest is 7, and I only hold his hand if we are somewhere really crowded and I worry about losing him.  Sometimes I make sure he holds on the stroller if we are someplace busy.  I think holding hands as a safety measure and not a sign of affection for parents and children.
