How old were you when you started to watch the Olympics?

i was 8 years old ! 2000 sydney olympics, awesome times ..

There are two reasons for my answer. Where was I and how much coverage was there? I remember ABC covering them and I think the first I watched were in Tokyo in 1964 or in Mexico City in 1968. They were held in Oct. then. I was in my 20's.

1972 Munich I can vaguely remember but it was overshadowed by other events.

First Olympic games I remember were the Mexico games in 68. I remember the black athletes holding there fists in the air but did not realise what it meant as a 10 year old white kid born in England.

The first games I actually sat and watched properly were the next at Munich.

Three events stand out for me, Olga Korbut(USSR) winning gold at the gymnastics, Valerie Borzof winning the 100 & 200 metres sprint(USSR) and Mark Spitz getting those 7 golds with 7 world records.

I had hoped that Michael Phelps would not beat Spitz's record but also realised that the record had to go sometime and 36 years is a record in itself.

Spitz is still a hero as Phelps will be to todays swim fans, even in 30+ years.

Can't remember the first Winter Olympics, but one name stands out to me and that is Franz Klammer the downhill skier.

I was nine when I watched the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles. Mary Lou Retton was awesome!
