How old were you when your grandparents died? Or are they still living?

My grandma recently went into the hospital and it got me thinking. I'm 20 years old, and she is the only grandparent I have left. My one grandfather died way before I was born, and the other one died when I was about 4. My other grandma died last year when I was 19. I'm just curious as to how old everyone else was when they lost their grandparents. I know some people still have grandparents living when they are well into their 30s. That seems crazy to me since that's not the way it is in my family. Thanks for all the answers!

It depends, if you are in touch with them, it can hurt when they die. But if you get a sense of who they really are and it is not a good thing, then it is no different than a stranger you meet on the street.

I was about 11 or 12 when I lost my last living grandparent, my grandmother on my mothers side. My parents had me in their early forty's  so I never had many years to get to know her as I was growing up and only saw her two to three times a year. When we did go to visit her I loved her big two story house with the attic filled with mysterious and interesting things that she would let me explore through. I hope you got to hear wonderful stories from your grandma about when she grew up and the adventures she had. They are our history and when they are gone so are the stories of their life. Im sorry to hear she's in the hospital and hope she can go home soon so you can spend some time with her. Best wishes to you and your Grandma.

i was in 6th grade when my grandma on my mom's side died, and i was a freshman in high school when my grandpa died on october 31st 2007, i only have my grandma on my dad's side who is in her 90's, (i'm 15)

My father's father died before I was born. His mother died years ago (I really don't remember).

My mother's father died in 1987 and I was 23 or so, and my grandmother died in 2003 I think...so I'd have been 39.

I have one surviving grandparent (maternal grandmother),and I am in my mid-forties.

i am 16 now, my dads mum and dad died when i was 5 and my mums dad died before i was born. My nan died when i was 13.<3

I was 11 when my granny died, it wasnt a shock though, we had prepared ourselves for the worst.
