Ok, so I'm 13, going to be 14 in October, and I still get a kids menu at restaraunts. It's really, really embarrassing. I know it's now the waiter/waitresses fault but it just gets to me every time I get one. I know it's not a big deal, but it just humiliates me. Just last week, I looked at the kids menu and it said in quote 'Kids Menu: Kids 10 and Under' And that made me want to puke. Please answer, as long as it's not rude!

  1. I would relax. I know it is hard to not be seen as old as you are. When I was 16 (and done growing) I was mistaken for an 11 year old!! I was heated then, but as I have gotten older I have learned to deal with it.

I am almost 34 years old and I still get carded sometimes. I think your best bet is to try and take it all in stride. If you want an adult menu, ask nicely for one.

  2. people are different i was stopped given kids menus at 8 yrs just ask for a regular menu

  3. I was 19 and my cousin was 16 and the waitress at pizza hut asked if we wanted the "kids" buffet bar. I asked how old...and she said 10 and under. This of course was half the adult price. We almost took it. lol. My cousin was so distraught though.

Call them out on their stupidity and ask to see the full menu...and joke about how the waitress must think you're cute for offering the cheaper priced meals to you.

I'm going on 29 soon and I still get carded to see a rated R movie. lol. I used to hate it because it would happen whenever I forgot my ID. I can guarantee, having my mother drive up to hand me my license at the theater on a busy saturday in her housecoat with rollers in her hair is far, far, far, far more embarrassing then getting the kids menu ;)

Enjoy being young, it doesn't last for long!

  4. Sometimes they just don't know.  You may just look young, but I think I could tell a 9 year old from a 13 year old.  I don't think it should make you want to puke.  Don't take it personally.

  5. Probably next year, my guess.

I always looked young for my age, but at a certain point you'll find it becomes a good thing.

If you are looking for respect from adults, you could try dressing up a bit when you go out to a restaurant. A shirt with a collar will make you look older, and if you feel like you look good, your posture and bearing may help you gain the respect you are looking for. I don't mean a suit and tie!

Or try just wearing whatever the older teenagers in your area are wearing, or let your hair grow a bit. Looking confident will help, and will make you feel good about yourself too.

  6. aww darling, dont worry about it...you will be glad when you are older if people thing you are younger then you actually are....the kids menus are great actually...im going to be 30 next year, and still order the happy meal for myself or eat off kids menu's....better portions for me...i can never finish a full "adult" meal...

Dont worry about this....waitresses dont have to ID kids, they are just doing their job, if you dont wanna look at it, then dont, just look at the other menu.

  7. don't feel bad, it's not you. My twins are 13 also going to be 14 in Oct. and they still get handed kids menus too. I think a lot of restaurants assume people your age are still picky eaters and will want the kids menu. Some people might think you look younger. I would speak up though because half the problem is probably that no one says anything so the staff assumes they are doing good. Next time they hand you a kids menu, politely say "May I have the adult menu please" try to remember that most adults still view young teens as "kids".

I totally know how you feel though...when I was 18 we went to a huge park that had a pool and you had to pay to get into the pool. It was 12 and under $2.00 and over 12 was $5.00. I handed the lady a $5.00 and started to walk in and she said "hun don't forget your change and tried to hand me back $3.00. I was SO mad. How could she mistake me at 18 for under 12? I have always looked young for my age and since I am short and petite that doesn't help in that department LOL

  8. aww, don't worry about it, seriously

I'm 17 in a month and i still (occasionally) get given the kids menu at restaurants

there is a positive - i can still get in for a child's price at the movies and theme parks

its hard to say how old you will be when they stop giving you a menu. some people just look younger than other people. or maybe the waiter just isn't sure, so he thinks he should give you a kids menu just in case, and if you need the other menu you can look at your parents menu or your friends menu or something?

    i don't know

  9. Im 14 and i stopped getten them at age 11 when the water comes act mature and dress like a teen and BAM it'll all be ok lol good luck

  10. You are a kid until you turn 18. But the kid's menu will stop coming when you look older. when I was 12 I looked like a 15-16yo, so they never gave me a kids' menu after that. The last time was when I was 11 and the waitress asked us whether to give the kids' manu or the adult one.

  11. My daughter is almost 13 and very petite.  She is always offered the kid's menu.  She just smiles and says, "Adult menu, please."  But sometimes it gets to her.

OTOH, I've had people assume I'm her grandma.

    Wanna trade some years?

  12. Isn't that anoying. Sorry I was given them until I was in my late 14's. It should be over soon. Then again I have always been told I look young for my age (16 now)

  13. 10.

  14. Why dont you head them off? Just say as soon as you sit down, "I'll be ordering off the main menu thank you" or get your parents to say it.

  15. I get this all the time! I'm very short and I've done growing I'm fifteen and I still get a lid on my glass at restaurants.  The only thing to do is to tough it out, lucky for you you will probably sprout up very very soon!

  16. Take it all in stride, you'll be glad when you're older.  When you are older and get carded you'll take it as a compliment.

  17. dude i feel your pain im fifteen and although i don't get a kids menu, every time i call someplace they always call me ma'am and stuff it just oohhh i hate it i don't remember the last time i got a kids menu, probably because everywhere i go the kids menu is in with the adult menu (probably for this exact reason) so go somewhere where the kids and the adults menu is combined and other then that its tough to say when they'll stop giving it to you just tough it out the best you can and think of how embarrassed the waiter/waitress is when you ask for the adults menu
