People lives longer than ever, the average life span is in their 80s. I see alot of people retired then coming back to work, this 70 years old nurse applied to my unit 2 days ago.

So, what's the right age to retire for modern day human?

  1. There is no one "right" age.

That's because everyone ages differently.  You see some people in their 80's who still run marathons; many others that age cannot.  People's brains work the same way - some continue to function well, others do not.

It also depends on the job requirements.  A person could continue to be quite capable of sedentary employment but not capable of heavy physical labour.

People continuing to work into their later years usually reflects either financial need, or that they only find paid work to be meaningful for them.

Myself, I intend to retire at 54.  I can retire on full pension then, and I have many other hobbies and interests I want to pursue.  I am financially able to do that.  If I weren't, I would work longer.

  2. I would say about 65, my father didn't retire until he was 71. People are living until their 80's now so I think about 70 would be normal. I mean people should as a rule only be retired for about 10 to 15 years before they die. If more than that they will get sick of having nothing to do.

  3. When you can no longer function with the skills that are needed for your job, then you should retire. There are just as many incompetent 30 year olds as there are 70 year olds.

  4. Don`t know, people live longer doesn`t mean they need work longer, so give these old man a break, if they wanna go back to work, let them make the decision, not the company or the government`s regulations.

btw, although I`m still don`t have a job now(I`ll go to work next month,), if I get the money, I would like retire now and travel around the world.

  5. start planning your retirement as soon as you start working.  Retire as soon as possible.  Many people say that life begins at retirement, but I think you shouldn't retire until it is financially feasable.

  6. 70 because im not sure...some c**p happens

  7. I imagine it depends on how I feel about my work when I am at the age of considering retirement (I think a minimum would be 55+). I don't know what I will be doing or how I will feel about it 30+ years from now...

  8. Most men retire and die, they are used to doing something and going somewhere each day.

Unless you had a lot of money socked away and could get into great hobby or like to travel I would say you wont' have to retire unless you want to; I mean half the 20 year old don't want to do what the 60 year olds are willing to do and the older guys have more experience and knowledge anyways.

  9. avg. age is 62-65.  But really whenever you have enough moeny in a deffered compensation account.  Actually...when you have saved enough money through your life, that should have been planned out, that you can retire whenever and live off that money for the remainder of your days.

  10. Ill retire at 40.
