How old you have to be to work in NJ?

Does anyone know how old you have to be to get a job in NJ? I'm 15 and about to turn 16 but no one's hiring...I called many places but they said no

  1. It is legal to work (after school and during the summer) starting at age 14 in New Jersey.  Of course, anyone under the age of 16 needs a permit.  

    However, many businesses do not want to hire young teenagers, even if it is legal to do so.  There are restrictions on the number of hours you can work, the kind of work you can do, and so forth.  Besides, a lot of businesses believe that an older teen will be a better and more mature employee.  

    Instead of calling on the phone, I suggest that you apply in person, to show that you are going to be a responsible person.  Ask to speak with the manager and try to show that you will work hard and understand what is expected of you.
