  1. I don't see it happening ever. From the many times I've been there the place will always be the same and if you look at the country's history its just a repeating cycle. Yeah alot of business comes through the country but those profits go back in the pockets of the foreign investors who take advantage of the Filipino people everyday. That mixed with the culture and attitude of the people just doesn't help it at all. Don't get me wrong Filipino's are really hard workers, patriotic and really really nice most of the time and thats a problem too. Nice guys finish last and look at America being the cut throats they are, they have it so good generally speaking.

I could go on and on for hours as to why the Pines will never be a 1st world country but I'll leave it at that. Suffice to say though I really hope things get better for the Pines in the reality of 2008 I possibly seeing things slowly getting worse.

  2. i think i will be dust already when the philippines becomes a 1st-world country.

    (nice question)

  3. Dead and buried

  4. Sadly, we could have been a rich country many years ago if the right  people had just managed our government efficiently and effectively  and led Filipinos in productivity instead of corruption, selfishness and power trip.  If the true democracy had just prevailed in our country,  we could have been what Rizal, Mabini or Quezon had hoped for (and fought for).  Statistically, in the 60's, we were ahead of South Korea, Malaysia, Hong Kong and Taiwan, among others, but look where we are now?  We had a lot of resources to speak of  but mostly exploited, both manual and natural.  Being said that, I do not think, we should give up all our hope but at the same time, I can trully understand why we feel such hopelessness and despair.  That is because we have not seen any changes in our government for several decades now and it seems like it is getting worst by the hour, isnt it?  We have been deprived, ripped off, raped and abused by our government,   Anyway historically, lets take the case of Venezuela for example.  A beautiful, patriotic, religious and oil rich country where the price of gas is about 12 cents (5.52 pesos) a gallon or roughly 3.1 cents (1.45 pesos) a litre, at least the last time I checked.  Why is this country in such a turmoil now?  The answer is "Hugo Chavez" and his allies.  Once a country falls in the hands of wrong people, this is what is expected  to happen.  We can pray and ask God for miracles and changes with all our faith, but as long as the same "powers that be" is in control, nothing is ever going to change.  Our country has a lot of highly educated people, at par with some the best on earth, but sadly, they will rather work for the mighty US dollar than our week peso, Honestly, I cannot blame them, we need money to live and the more we have, the better we live, for the most part, right?.  Anyway,  hope should not completely vanish and fade away from us.  True, currently our govenrment is in the hands of wrong people and has been for many many years now and will possibly stay this way for a long long time but I truly believe we still have a lot of good natured people, and a lot of good people will be born, and as long as the likes of Ninoy will prevail, there is always hope.  In the meantime, my dream for our country is for the best 1000 Filipinos, who are not engrossed by money and power, (with Filipinos numbering at over 90 million,  I am sure they exist) in the fileds of economics, mathematics, statistics, philosophies, law, medicine, sciences, technologies and other outstanding fields (with the exception of politics please), will get together and run the congress and senate, including the Malacanang palace, wouldnt that be a dream team?  If this Best 1000 have the hearts of our past good natured heroes and will take over the country,  where do you think we will be in 2020?  US Presidential Candidate Barack Obama's motto is "CHANGE", I really dont think the U.S. needs it now nor in the next decades.  They still have democracy in the truest sense of the word and with a median income of over  $50,000.00, they definitely dont need it.  Sorry Barack, you dont need it but Philippines DOES.  Anyone with me?

  5. It will not happen within the fore seeable future. I will be dead and buried so it definately will not occue within my life time.

  6. You know what. I dont know. The Philippines is the second most corrupt country in Asia, and the on going civil war is not making it any better. If Mindanao is at peace, and we can use all our natural resources. All we need to work on is electing good leaders, and working as one. Hopefully the RP would be a first class country before I die.

  7. I'd be space dust by then.

  8. I think it will not happen in my lifetime. Make use of what you have to work with and stop trying to compete to be at the front of the line.  Make your own line and you can be at the front of it.  Philippines is already my number 1 choice to live there.  If it were like Amerika, you could keep it.  Nobody wants more of that c**p.

  9. My son is 9 y/o.  I doubt if it will even be in his grandsons' lifetime. :(

  10. Tha'ts quite a very optimistic question !

In the first place - you can honestly ask yourself - will the Philippines be ever a developing country? Philippines was never a developing country before, it is not now and won't be ever.... sorry to say, but that's the reality.

Gone are the days when the Philippines is in the brink of being a developing nation when it was next to Japan during the pre-Marcos era. But sad to say - the economic flight was terminated by series of political turmoil and the blindness of the people who - up to now- are still very forgetfull of their past.

Philippinos are living on false hope, dream and the only thing that is constant in their everyday's lives is to hope that the country is in the brink of recovery and that the economy is better than today than anytime before. But the painful truth is - it's not.

Lucky are those people who believe (at leat dream) that the country will someday become a 1st world - but pity to those who knows the factual truth.

  11. It's never going to happen because of the Filipino attitude. I come on here sometimes telling the truth on how it is. But then I always receive negative comments back because of it. Filipino people are in denial and don't want to admit the truth. Do they realize that everyone has already recognized what is going on and will never be. All you hear is I'm proud of being a Filipino. So your proud of being corrupt, poor country, superficial, and much much more. But I'll stop right there. Instead of backing them up you young Filipinos need to take over that old style of running the country and make it for the better.

  12. 10billion y/o

  13. ...categorizing countries as 1st, 2nd, 3rd worlds is an outdated model of the geopolitical structures.  it was widely used at the time of the cold war.  i personally prefer the term "newly industrialized country" to refer to the philippines.  and i do hope we get to be up there with the economic giants (usa, china, japan, etc.) on or before i reach the ripe old age of xx.

  14. not in my lifetime.  but it will come hopefully 100 years or less.

  15. 9,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,00...

  16. The oldest man in the world has died. He was 138, if I were to live to that age that would give the Philippines another 80 years to get its act together. I doubt that I would get to see it.
