  1. They can't. This story is rubbish

ISPs do NOT know what you are downloading (if they did why don't they report all the hate criminals, terrorists and paedos)what they know is you are using your bandwidth, if you have ahigh usage they are assuming you are a pirate, but know nothing. They are guessing.

With a P2P file sharing protocol they know you are downloading something, but not what let alone if it is legal. If they write to me guessing because of my usage I will write back telling them to bugger off and change supplier

I note that the ISPs that host pirate sites arent offering to close them down and stop them from having sites

  2. you are so busted!

  3. its the government they ain't stupid, they will find a way to track you down.

  4. Love the comment about Peer Guardian, unfortunately it doesn't work with Vista yet. I use ipfilter along with uTorrent and it can be enlightening to see how many connections are rejected !

Another poster is quite correct in saying that you ISP doesn't know what you are uploading/downloading. But, and this is the big but, the PC that you upload/download TO does know what you are sharing AND your IP address and that is where people come a cropper.

Unless you can figure out how the guys below did it and ended up getting enforcement notices served on their laser printers !

  5. not sure but shouldnt it be the people hosting the websites eg torrentspy and torrents.to where all these films and things are comming from who should be getting into trouble?

  6. For what its worth, I wouldn’t do it unless i had a system ghost running! The viruses out there just don’t make it worth while!

Virus software is also a scam!

As for the legality of it, it would be far more financially viable for the movie makers and distribution networks, to bring down the price of their plastic offerings. This would kill the illegal trade and the crime associated with it, and we would all benefit. Sales would increase too!

As for copying data, thats childs play and always will be!

  7. The IP providers are by law  forced to disclose  those who use the download sites .. you cannot keep your  forays secret

  8. it all sounds scary tbh. What if we all get fined ??? :O

  9. Excuse me please, this site is for answers not political protest...now please click on the red cross on the top right please

  10. you ISP (internet service provider) keeps a record of all the sites you go on and all the stuff you download.

i learned today that the 6 uk companies that are in talks to try and stop illigal downloading are saying that they will never block peoples internet because of this.

  11. Yeah all they have to do is track down the IP addresses (im not sure if thats an easy or difficult process), then once they've found the person they're able to fine them or whatever they do to handle it.

  12. If they can trace child abusers and paedophles who know more how to bury themselves more than you do, you wont be that hard to find.

  13. Apparently  then can trace the IP addresses to the ISP who has records of who had what number at what time

  14. the 6 big internet providers are going to give our information out if we continue to download illegally....that is if we do it after our warning letters are received....according to the news tonight!  sounds difficult to police though i think.

  15. Your phone company informs the authorities on your down-loading!! A guy at work received a warning over down-loading 1 music track the other day!!!

  16. they can see everything you do online, but i think they only punish you if u download insane amounts like 10 albums/3 movies a day

  17. PEER GUARDIAN <<<<<<<<<<<<<< THAT ANSWER TO ALL YOUR PROBLEMS

  18. They can't. Either A) they monitor all data traffic or B) they snoop on anyone using more than an "average" amount of bandwidth. Neither should make you happy.
