Im 25 years old and I have about $3,000 debt. I tried to pay off as much as I could but stupidly paid off the small balances first. Anyways, the majority of whats on my credit card is paid off, and I want to get it removed but can you do that? I cant even call these companies because the phone numbers my credit report lists are disconnected. I want to do the right thing but I dont even know where to start. Oh and there is a judgement on my credit report statement saying that I owed 15 grand in city taxes from when I was 17 years old but it was later corrected to a measly $95 and that has been paid but the 15 grand remains on my report. Is there any hope at all to get this resolved?

  1. Actually you debt load isn't bad. I would say your problem is the city taxes thing. I suggest you take the letter or statement  showing the correct balance and that you paid it and contact the credit agencies giving you the bad report. They will likely want you to send a copy of the statement or letter. Because if they have incorrect data and do not correct it when you contact them and they are given legitimate evidence, you can sue them.

  2. It is not possible to repair your credit, especially overnight.  Improving your credit takes time and discipline.  I don't think you made a mistake in paying off the smallest balances first.  I always counsel people to pay off the smallest to the highest.  This way you feel some sense of accomplishment.  I would also caution you not to close all of your credit accounts.  Keep the oldest one open, this will show an established credit history.
