  1. Or indeed,to decide NOT to follow at all.

  2. In most of the cases, the parents religion is followed as they train the  child right from the childhood. It is only when the child becomes independent in thinking  that he can take a decision on what to believe or not to believe.

  3. There is no reason to change the parental religion. Every religion has its own good points. You need to understand and follow those points. The destiny is same for all the religious preachings.

  4. Religion is embedded in us from the minute we are born. That's just the way it is. You don't choose your religion, it is born with you. If you are not convinced of your parents religion, than you can convert.

But this is how the process happens. The Indians for example enjoy spicy food, the Japanese enjoy sushi, The Italians enjoy spaghetti.

Indians may taste other foods, but will always eat Indian cuisine more than any other cuisine because that's what their taste buds are used to. But if an Indian person chose to permanently stop eating Indian cuisine and begin mainly eating Japanese food and other International cuisines than this person saw something that they did not like in the Indian cuisine; it could be that they found it to be too spicy, too strong, unhealthy, fattening or what ever.

But this person experienced, explored and made a choice to abandon what their parents got them used to eating. And chose to change their eating habits because they felt more comfortable with another food that  satisfied them.

Generally speaking though, people rarely abandon their religion because it's hard to feed someone with information for many years and then abandon that world that they came to know and that's all they've ever known.

Religion is a like a baby that starts small but grows and grows until it has matured and has become strong and hard to break or influence.

I hope you understand what I have tried to tell you.

People do have a choice though to choose their religion when they have grown, matured and are able to make an informed choice. Religion can never be forced on someone, you either believe or you don't. No one can interfere in your faith, feelings are intangible and unseen and untouchable.

  5. Educate yourself. Learn about all religions. From that you will understand which is best for you. Or come to the conclusion that they're all rubbish. If it turns out to be the latter you'll then also have a whole arsenal of information to use in arguments with religious zealots. Win/win.

  6. I dont think we should blindly follow what our parents did,

Once our faore fathers believed the earth was flat, ships were sailing even then,

We also believed in India that the earth is balanced on the two horns of the Cow, when the cow shifts the load we have earth quakes,

our parents believed that women had to stay home, and most still believe in Sati (jumping into the fire of the husbands funeral)

I think its time we change all that, Cause when u need to goto a moovie, you choose to see what u think is best,

when u go dining u know whats best for you, when u buy a shirt u have a brand in mind,

So when religion is present in all walks of our life, I think we should compare all these very nuetrally and choose what we like best.
