If you are strong and stick to what you believe in then when you are around others who aren't so lucky to have that, you will be more of a positive influence on them.  To stay safe from the negative influences you need to find a daily way of checking in with yourself in order to make sure you are on track and being true to yourself.   Your morals and values define who you are, if you stray from them you are not being true to yourself.
