How or What do you do to prevent homemade ice cream from turning rock hard?

okay, so i heard the whole ziploc idea as an alternative to the ice cream machine. then i heard canola oil also prevents rock solid ice cream. anyone have suggestions or solutions?

  1. Homemade ice cream differs from store bought. In store bought ice cream, there is a lot more air and stabilizers in the mixture to keep it from forming large ice crystals. It is harder to achieve this with a homemade ice cream, therefore, it is best to eat it within a few days.

  2. Are you remembering to break up the ice crystals? It would probably be best to look this up on the net. If you dont mix it it will just end up a lump of milky ice!
