  1. Yeah, you can't shout at him though.  He's doing what cats do and he's giving you the gifts, my cat does it too, I come home to dead birds on my bed or just the head of a mouse, its quite nasty!

Try getting a bell and a luminous collar for him, that way the birds get a warning.

  2. It is a cat's nature to hunt and when he brings it home he is telling "look what I did". The only way to stop this is make him a total housecat

  3. Keep him safely indoors where he can't kill native wildlife or become injured by poison (anti-freeze, pesticides, etc), cars, malicious people, loose cats, loose dogs........etc.

  4. No you can't really stop him. I have had loads of cats. Some have been voracious hunters and others no interest at all. If they have that instinct there is very little you can do about it. The one thing I do know about cats is that they don't understand shouting at all, all it does is scare and confuse them. To train a cat you have to think like a cat not a human. Billy may not look like a lion/tiger/leopard but he is, just scaled down. The only thing I can suggest is that you play with him a lot (which you probably do anyway) and to get good at rescuing any victims that survive.

  5. How about keeping your little killer indoors?  Wild birds belong outdoors.  Killer does not.  Not unless ya'll live in Africa.

bells don't work when babies can't fly.

  6. a collar with a lil bell on it works a treat.

  7. There is really no why to train a cat not to hunt if you allow it outside..it is natural instinct, you cannot punish them for it.  The only thing you can do is keep you cat indoors.  It is not only safer for native wildlife but safer for you cat as well being that there are many outdoor dangers for cats.  What people seem to forget is that cats are domesticated animals and no longer have a niche or place in the ecosystem and should not be allowed outside.  Cats are actually responsible for the death of millions of millions of songbirds worldwide and are contributing to the decline and endangerment of many species.  Scientists are very concerned and have started a "cats indoors" campaign.

Also, there is a new product that you can try if you feel you MUST let your cat outdoors that has been scientifically proven to keep cats from catching birds and other animals..it looks a little silly (I must admit) but if it works it is well worth it!

Bells on your cat will do absolutely nothing..there have been many studies proving that cats will just learn to stalk their prey without the bell sounding, and birds really do not associate a bell with danger.

Here are some additional reasons to keep cats indoors:

Please consider this if you are concerned about wildlife and your pet.

  8. If hes bringing them home he wants to share with you and show you how much he loves you.my cat has brought me all sorts of gifts.Hunting is just his natural instinct there is not really a way to stop him.the only thing you can do is make him a inside only cat or let him do what nature intended.
