Question:

How or when will climate change denial be overcome?

There are countless petty arguments based on complete ignorance filling the internet, but I cannot see any progress being made. What will it take to get everyone on the same side and start acting?

  1. Facts are facts, they don't have to be new. They don't have to be old. They're just facts. We tend to hear this out of the agw people. Got anything new? I'm tired of hearing about all the other planets in the solar system warming. I'm tired of hearing about the medieval warming period. Failing to accept loud and clear facts is ignorant.

  2. Climate change is a real thing. The Earth has increased in temperature over time. Logical.

You're looking for "global warming", the theory that everything will heat up, melt, and wipe us away to sea. I don't agree with this. This problem is the one causing arguments, not "climate change". Two different things.

  3. The climate is always changing, I am not aware of anyone in denial about that, or are you one of those that has been mislead into believeing that climate is static.

  4. I guess when it doesent happen :P

  5. Stop putting silly Republicans in charge.

  6. I assume that you mean AGW.

Right now, we don't know if the Earth is getting warmer or not.  Surface stations used to monitor weather have been found to be providing seriously flawed temperature infomation due to faulty placement/equipment....this has been going on for years and NOAA has done nothing to correct this situation!!  The temperatures reported by these substandard stations are higher than actual....and it is getting worse!

If the data used to survey past, current and future temperature trends is faulty.....then there can be no science based on that data.  Garbage in.....garbage out!!!

This is an 'inconvenient truth' that the Gore-ites refuse to address because it would undermine their entire 'cause'!!!

  7. yes this is new check it out http://www.dailytech.com/Solar+Activity+...

  8. The next Ice Age.

  9. I have given up even thinking about the deniers. I firmly believe that many of them that post on yahoo answers are in fact the same people. Dont worry about if progress appears to being made. It is. Everyone will never be on the same side.

I have a really interseting video for you, it is about 58 mins long, and covers the subject of denial of AGW and also the formation of the IPCC who funnily enough deniers use as  evidence of the UN trying to impose a new world order by taking away our rights....

I am also sorry that you ask a question like this and received so many hostile and uninformed answers. It can be very hard to have any form of debate here sometimes.....   ;=/

  10. When the price of beer goes up ,because of potable uncontaminated water shortage.

Many will sing a different tune very quickly.

Or when food prices hit the roof because of Environmental disasters affecting large food producing areas ,usually third world countries.

  11. Only when it's too late...

  12. when the weather stops going below 0 degrees

  13. When someone can show objective information the debate will be settled.

A consensus is nothing more than a vote, it's political, not scientific.

With all the knowledge we have, no one can yet show if it will be warmer or colder 5 years from now.  Anyone who believes it will be warmer is just guessing.

  14. Denial? It it denial to question unproven theory(AGW)?

What will it take? Emprical proof.

  15. it wont it just evolves into different forms.

  16. Everybody can say beautiful sentence,

but it is hard make it happen,

  17. Adam, some will be in denial until the end and others will take a while to see the obvious. You're correct, there is a lot of ignorance and disinformation out there, but the tide has turned. If you look carefully, companies are responding to the situation. Notice the commercials from GE (ecomagination) advertising green products. GM is doing the same. National Geographic (Six Degrees), Discovery Channel, History Channel and so on...all airing programs about climate change and energy efficiency more frequently. Why are they doing this? Climate change is real and the world is concerned about it. It may not look like it here in the US, but we are sort of the last bastion of doubters. And those doubters are a minority here now.

  18. There are people who believe the earth is flat, the Elvis is alive and well in Outer Mongolia that aliens are among us and that 9/11 was a government conspiracy. The remaining deniers, with their fake 'science' and refusal to accept the reality that the scientific community worldwide is seriously concerned about the issue because it is happening now, very visibly and at a rate faster than earlier forecast, now belong to the wacko groups. They make a lot of noise but can be ignored as they will be increasingly marginalised and become irrelevant.

  19. Belief in AGW is based on faith.

We don't have the science to accurately model the climate and the best information we have available suggest that recent warming is not caused by a greenhouse effect, but by something else like increased solar radiation.

  20. yeah, and I bet you have done your own research, and your scientific background allows you to determine what is happening to something so complex like the atmosphere.

Or you saw that stupid, biased, and horribly inaccurate documentary last night on national geographic and now you think you're an expert on the subject.

Global warming is a religion, it isnt proven, just like the existence of god is unproven.

  21. You can not get every one on the same side about anything.

  22. The fact that you use a pejorative term like "denial", with all the holocaust connotations it is designed to invoke, probably answers your own question.

It is a serious issue that remains open to debate. You should enter the debate with an open mind, not dismiss anyone who dares question your beliefs, which is itself rather petty and ignorant.

  23. I am a geologist and environmental consultant.  I find Shapeshifter and Tomcat to be very scientific and reasonable.  You, however, simply throw out insults and pretend that those that don't agree with you are ignorant.  You may be frustrated by what you consider petty arguments that don't fit your preconcieved theories.  If you educated yourself, perhaps you would realize that there is far more that you don't know especially about climate and the role of humans in climate change.  I am only interested in the truth.  Those that use science to push a political cause should be exposed.  Until then, denial will continue, at least until the theory that humans are significantly contributing to harmful warming is proved (or even indicated).
