  1. Another way. The paint is forced up into the spray head by air pressure with a regulator on the gun that controls both the apply pressure and the amount of paint delivered. The air is delivered to both sides of the nozzel to form a fan pattern and the paint comes out the center where it is metered with a rod attached to the trigger with an adjusting s***w and a stop/ regulator.

A very fine spray is delivered according to the settings, and must not be too heavy as the paint will accumulate quickly and run. Experience and preparation are the best teachers. Poor prep will destroy good work.

Some guns hold their own resevoirs while others are fed with a hose from a container.

There are also vibrator driven guns for home owners that work on another principle I doubt they will be part of the test but you need to know about them.

Sorry about the stars, apparently the mechanicle powered sprayers that are electrically driven with their own power source are censored.......

  2. well if my physics serves me correctly, when the fine particles are forced through the nozzel of the spray gun they are given a strong charge (sorry, cant remember if its positive or negative), by means of an electrode connected to a high voltage supply. The car is given an opposite charge and so the paint is strongly attracted to the car. This creates a very even application of paint because little paint is wasted (i.e. in opposite direction to car) and because particles of paint repel each other preventing uneven coverage. for more info try www.howstuffworks.com

    hope this helps
