I'm doing a report, and i posed this question in my paper, but i can not find the answer anywhere, does anyone know how many people, if ever report crimes that have been committed against them, to a friend of theirs who is an officer of the law or are they too ashamed to have their officer friend know?

  1. I have no idea...but I can tell you this;

    If I go anywhere when i meet folks for the first time, I will be besieged with questions and requests for advice on a variety of crime and legal related topics, including the reporting of various (usually petty BS crimes).

    As for the victim of a crime "being ashamed". NO, they have no reason to be ashamed, the offender does though.

  2. We have a police officer that resides in my mother's community. He grew up with us and people in the neighborhood go to him a lot to complain about community nuisance's and other matters

  3. Every one is different so there is really no way to tell what percentage of people do not report crimes. I know many times people go directly to an officer they know to report something regardless if it is his/her jurisdiction, or if they are on duty or not.
