hydrogen fuel cell out of scrap. I not not talking about anything fancy but just a basic hydrogen fuel cell.

  1. they are pretty complicated. I doubt it. Could you build a lead-acid battery? these are much more complicated.

  2. define plausible and scraps..

    scraps imply that you have parts of plentiful systems that worked at some time.. if you had these scraps your problem would be solved

    the way you word it it sounds trivial.. like a "basic nuclear reactor"

    its pretty hard to synthesize a proton exchange membrane..

    maybe if you get ahold of dupont Nafion works you could get some scraps of PEM

  3. Hydrogen fuel cells are complicated (fancy) and can be dangerous if things go wrong... you are creating/storing a highly flammable gas.

    If you are going to attempt this I would suggest you use the highest quality materials and apply high factors of safety in the design and fabrication.
