How poisonous is the yew tree?

Hey, i'm doing a school project on the yew tree and i was just wondering if anyone here knew how much damage ingesting one needle would do to a human, 2 needles, how much would kill you etc.

also, what are the symptoms of eating a yew tree? i heard they aren't too nice!

any info would be greatly appreciated!!!!

  1. I work for an insurance company and we recently had a claim whereby a horse ate some clippings from a yew tree (the tree had been clipped back and leaves not cleared up properly).

    The horse died !


  2. yew or taxus baccata is a potent neurotoxin containing tree with the poisons being alkaloids.every part of it is toxic except for its aril which is igested by birds.it was used in medieval europe and by indians for making poisonous arrows.

  4. why would you eat a tree? eating too many needles can give you a tummy ache.
