How popular is Rugby in the UK?

Is it the second/third/fourth most popular sport in England? Explain how it effects your life. I want answers from brits, not Americans guessing. (yeah I know it's 11:00 there but whatever)

Here it is the other upper class sport after Cricket. I'd say the 3rd most popular after Football and Cricket, Rounders and Netball being girls/kids games. Strange that the really rich and landed kids play rugby at the best universities while Football (played w. your feet what you call Soccer) is the working class game that the Middle class used to abhor but many have now latched on to.

Did you know US football is basically Rugby w. the ball passed forwards and lots of (over)protective gear?

Rounders became baseball

Netball became basketball

I don't really know if it is second or third or what, but I'd agree with second. It's fairly popular and most sceondary schools have at least one (maybe more) per year group. At my school there are more rugby players than football players. Plus, many schools that my school competes against also have two teams per year group to compete against the two teams per our year group. Plus it's on T.V. quite often. Just not on as often as football. Which is on too much.

Rugby Union is the national game in Wales (This year's Grand Slam Winners).

it depends where your from in the UK as to wether Rugby is popular and what code of Rugby, League or Union.

In England, it will probably be the 2nd most popular sport, or maybe 3rd, in the south of England, Union is More Popular, in the North of England, League is more popular.

In Wales, i think it is their national sport, and they play Union rather than League.

and in Scotland as well, Union dominates over League.

I've grown up playing and watching Rugby Union and League, so it dominates my life :-) i have been playing it for 13 years now and love every minute of it.
