VERY popular.  Native Americans had been doing open sea water births for LONG time and by the time the natural world caught on (1960s) it got popular with the hippies pretty quick and eventually spread into the mainstream by about 1985.  By 1990 it was almost as normal as any other form of birthing.


  2. It was very popular by the 1990s. It was discovered in the 1960s and caught on quick.
