First of all, Britain never had kicked German'sASS. Research the battle of Britain. Secondly, Britain is nowhere as powerful as it used to be due to the fact that the majority of its empire gained  their independence. I would rank Britain in the top 10 most powerful nations today, however. America is currently the strongest, but India and China are very competitive in this area.
