How powerfull is the Russian military.?

I know russia has thousands of nuclear weapons and does have some advanced militatry eqipment.

It's obvious with what's happening now. Bush may clench his fists and seeth his teeth in anger. But there's nothing he can do to defend his ally. Bush's "Shock and Awe" worked only against small, less powerful nations.

During the Cold War they left Europe alone while we had 500,000 guy's in Viet Nam and loads of draftees in Europe and here in the World. For those of you that think all the draftee's were in Viet Nam you are out of touch with reality. Of 1.7 million drafted only 650,000 went to Viet Nam. V Corps and VII Corps were both undermanned. Maybe those nuke artillary rounds did the trick cuz the 10/1 armored advantage they had then would have made a bloody mess of Germany and France.

Since they are using the SAME equipment now with little Navy (not a single Carrier folks), an Air Force that is not global and a population that likes thier new freedoms I doubt the morale of the military is any better than the old day's. Does anyone know if the Infantry still uses those cloth wrappers instead of socks. We used to laugh our butts off watching those ASA movies about our dreaded enemy. Communisn is in it's last day's. While that could be another 20 years I still say Russia will be part of NATO before another 20 years.

We do not need to go to war with them and they know they do not want it with the west. They need business and honest people running them. Just like it took from 1776 till 1787 before our own Constitution was written don't think the changes required after the fall of the USSR are coming like an order of fry's at Burger King.

If the people in those areas want to be Russians (they were from the early 1800's) let them. All this c**p is from meddling with borders in the past anyway.

On a scale of 1 to 10, Russia is like a 8.5, and US is 11. We spend about 10x more on the military than they do. 5 years ago Russia was like a 7. They are getting stronger again.

USA is much more capable than Russia when at full strength. Please dont get it twisted. Russia is a major power though. But US is the only super power. The Soviet Union was a super power before it collapsed.

We only suspected but now we know it is a joke by modern standards.

Their tanks would have been out of place 20 years ago. The US destroyed 10,000 of them in Iraq in a matter of hours. The have no defense against Hellfires, top down attacks and no rolled bar armor. The best they can do is rig it with explosives and hope.

They used high dollar large aircraft for reconnaissance and had it shot down. This means they have no drone capability.

Their piolts are so inexperienced that they could not fly below the minimum ceiling level of 700 feet to prevent being shot down.

Their smart bombs are not.

Their troops are highly undisciplined as evidenced in combat footage, command and control was non existent.  The part time Georgians even bagged a General. Talk about embarrassing.

Their Navy cannot protect their fleet. No carriers, no sub protection. It can be wiped out within minutes.

As far as their nukes, they're useless, unless they don't use them. If they do, Moscow becomes dust, while at the same time missile defense makes their chances of a successful launch doubtful.

Russian won over the little Satellite, but they lost much much more in what they told NATO and the World.

Russia is like a bear. Slow, lumbering, and unstoppable once engaged.

If you ever defeat Russia, it will be through a quick campaign. If it is a war of attrition, Russia will always win.

EDIT to Combat: Effectiveness, not size. China has an inferior military. Russia spent their entire treasury on the military for 4 decades. And Russia has more ICBM's.

what? r u an idiot? look at russian's military equipment, their uniform is old and outdated they don't even have body armor to protect the soldiers from the bullet impact, their tank will not withstand U.S. advance missile, their machine gun is ak-47 which is outdated i mean all of their military bullshit is old compare to the U.S. advance military equipment, i mean the U.S. government spends more than a billions of dollars a years just for the military, it would take the whole world's military spending combine to equal the U.S. military spending, also why do u think alots of countries are trying to buy U.S. military technology or even try to steal the technology?....plus U.S. have hundred of thousands of troops  and all over europe and asia and are ready to be deploy at moment notices....and have 147 military base all over the world...and yes the U.S. missiles aim at russia in case Russia does something stupid enough to angers the americans...

and oh about the nuke? yes russian may have a whole lot more nuke but the U.S. nuke is way more advance and on top of that the U.S. have the technology to stop the nuke before it hit which is called "missile defense program " if I'm correct....so i suggest u do a little more research between the U.S. and Russian military technology and man power....

Russia would probably flatten any country instantly,   look at georgia, they rolled in 500 tanks instantly. Took out everything major that's in georgia.

The nuke side of things is a lot more threatening.
