Question:

How practical is being vegetarian in Australia?

I'm an international student soon to be living in Australia, and I am wondering how feasible it will be to retain my vegetarian (pescetarian to be precise - I still eat seafood) diet. I understand that the Australian meat pie is an iconic national food. How common and/or socially acceptable is vegetarianism?

  1. If you will live near a supermarket and will have a stove and cookware, there is no saying that it isn't practical. Since you're not a vegetarian, but a pescetarian, I can't imagine you having trouble living anywhere since you can eat almost anywhere.

Bread, pasta, cereal, rice, beans, peas, lentils, nuts, seeds, fruits and veggies can easily offer everything that you need except B12.

All vegetarians should take a B12 supplement regularly since most people eat meat, dairy AND fortified cereals yet still have a B12 status that is lower than recommended.

It may help you if you see proof that vegan people have the same potential as anyone else.

If you need meat or dairy during any stage of your life or to live any certain lifestyle, why does the American Dietetic Association say otherwise?
