How private is one's mother's maiden name considered?

Hi, I'm in the US.

I have a cousin who wants to put up our family tree online but I didn't think it was wise..I know when I call my bank it's a security question they sometimes ask

  1. i dont think its anything bad its just a last name like a regular last name but its definately your own choice like if its for everyone to see (like anyone in on the internet) you might be uncomfortable with it. but your cousin is your own person so he should think for himself if its right or not not the people on yahooanswers


  2. Mothers maiden name is used a lot in security questions. I don't think it would be smart at all.  

  3. Well, if you're mom's proud of her heritaige it shouldn't be a problem. At least wher I'm from, it's not that big of a deal.

  4. its not smart to put your family tree online.if he is going to put it up not to put last names its not a good idea

  5. I don't think your cousin should put up your family tree online.  This is something personnel and like u everyone from the family has the right to object on it.

  6. I think it's fine, personally. Your security decisions are your own though.
