You read all the time about how suspects have their web history made public via the police. While not a criminal, how secure is my surfing information at my server? Can my boss call up the server and get my surfing information?

  1. ALL surfing history is accessable by the police. Depending on your boss's position at work, he may be able to call up your web-history if you use the company's internet connection..

  2. You can change your privacy options. In FF, Tools > Options > Privacy and uncheck "Keep history". It's similar in IE, but I'd have to open it to see exactly where it is. If you don't save history it isn't saved elsewhere on your computer. Your company could monitor web traffic, however, before it ever gets to your computer. If it's a large company, there's a good chance they do.

  3. your employers policy can and do allow them to surf your PC, your email and your browsing history. You have no control over that.

It is not a good idea to surf at work. Wait until you get home to do your surfing.

I had a job where I was surfing my blog site during my breaks. Within 2 weeks of starting the job, I found that the company had blocked my access to my blog site so I could not blog from work. I had to wait until I got home.
