  1. you got what ??????? what did  you  do ride  it off a mountain  the pros can't get but 35.7 on flat roads

  2. they avg anywhere from 20(when there going easy) to 40ish(coming into a sprint)

  3. How are you measuring that? 57mph is quite unbelievable. In track cycling, which is a pretty good measure of absolute fastest people can go on the flat, 45mph is a winning international speed for a sprint, so 57mph would allow you to coast to Olympic gold. It is possible that your cycling computer is in km/h mode, which would be a much more reasonable speed.

It is very hard to go faster in cycling at faster speeds, because wind resistance is squared with an increasing velocity, giving tremendous resistance increases as the speed increases.

  4. If you do 57, then I do 58. And Pros hit about 98mph.

  5. Are you sure you don't mean KM/H? That is too bloody fast!

  6. 57mph must be a misread or on a 1 in 3 straight down hill. My fastest downhill is 43mph. I was riding flat out in biggest gear. May have got a bit more if the hill was steeper.

Tour De France riders will travel at around 30 on flat roads. This is because a group of riders can always travel faster than an individual due to sharing the work at the front.  Interestingly Lance Armstrong did his last tour at an average speed of 26 MPH. This is incredibly fast for a flat race, but don't forget that includes all those mountain climbs as well.

  7. The world record for the 200 meter flying start on a UCI-legal bike is something like 45.36 mph. OTOH, 57 Kph is a 'mere' 35.3 mph.

  8. you must have wrong settings on your computer cos thats way 2 fast...  im quite fit but on a flat run i do about 35 mph max ( thats top speed not avrage speed )--  have done 45 mph but going down hill.....could have hit 50 but ran out of road,    in tour de france avrage speeds on the flat are usually mid 30`s

  9. you're either set to km/ph or rpm (your cadence). 57 km/ph (roughly 35 mph) is still really quick, especially to sustain, unaided by sharing drafts with other riders. if it's an rpm reading, shift into an easier gear, you're working too hard!
