what characterized the AVERAGE new woman of the 1920's? was it the flapper? how rebelliour were they, what did they do, and was the average flapper a true flapper at heart?

How bad were the flappers? My great-Aunt Del was one, and my dad says that, if she had something sticking out of her for every time she'd had something stuck in her, she'd have looked like a porcupine!
