Question:

How "reliable" are Honda Civic Hybrids?

My husband and I plan to get a new car, and I, being the one who ever-so-smartly manages the money, want a Civic Hybrid. He is acting extremely reluctant and blaming it on the fact that they're "so new" and fears that we'll start to have problems out of it, which will eventually cost us more than we can afford in repairs. Opinions on these cars would be greatly appreciated. If you can point me to any customer review sites, that would be awesome too! :-D Thanks!

  1. I'm not a fan of hybrids for the following reasons: Mathmatically it will take you six years worth of gasoline savings just to recover the added $5,000 base price of the car. At the end of 5 years you're looking square in the face the cost of total battery replacement. That's an excess of another $1,300.00.

I personally sat in a Toyota dealership when two people had just purchased a Hybrid Camry. The husband asked the salesman what it would cost to have the batteries replaced and he got this "asinine" answer: (You don't want to know.) If it had been me asking the queastion I'd have walked out the door!

Hybrids are not on my watch untill someone inents a totally new battery package that'll last forever.

  2. They are very reliable, its a honda, but they have been making hybrids for about 6 to 7 years, ive read from motor trend that they rated the civic hybrid as the best hybrid of the year, its a good car and honda makes excellent quality automobiles, hybrids sadly cost more to get worked on though, if you really want a hybrid look at a civic hybrid but honestly i would look at a regular civic, both of my parents drive 2007 honda civic's and my dad got 40 mpg on the interstate at 80mph and the a/c full blast, they run forever and are cheap to work on when they need to be worked on and honda guarantee's 100,000 miles or more between tune ups, i would look at both the regular civic and the civic hybrid and compare them both and see whats better for you, i hope this helps

  3. They are just as reliable as any other car, until 36000 miles of course, and then after that its a crapshoot.
