    Those that escape development can be harmed by farm runoff that contains fertilizers, pesticides and animal waste. These runoff produces can kill fish and cause eutrophication, which is the excessive growth of algae and severe reduction of water quality.

    Wetlands are very important because they function to clean water and remove pollutants from the environment.
