    I have checked the sites I normally use for surname origins and I couldn't find anything remotely like your name, it's unique. I even checked on this site as well, but as you will see there isn't one single family in the USA with the surname.

  2. The Haabaks came from Norway to North Dakota.  My guess is that Haabak is the name of a farm in Norway and the early settlers took that name when they immigrated.

    Many, including my own gggrandfather did that.

    The 1920 census has several in Lee, ND.

    The original immigrants probably had patronymic names, like Iver Pederson, son of Peder Iverson, son of Iver Pederson, etc.
