Question:

How reliable are internet iq tests?

I've just done an internet iq test on the website for the international society for high iqs. Ever since I was little everybody's always made a point of my intelligience. I came out head and shoulders above my peers in both secondary school and university, gaining results of 80%-90% in my final year. But on the online test I came out with a score of 113! This is much lower than I expected and since I had a score of 125 when I was 8 years old I was very surprised!

It sounds silly for me to be so upset by something so trivial as cleverness but when everybody bangs on about it all the time it really becomes part of your identity!

So what's going on? Can your iq go down? Can it go up? Could the online test have been unreliable? Maybe I'm not clever and I just work harder than others? What would you say would be a normal iq for someone with the kind of marks I was getting?

  1. well the one i did rated me as practically a genius so i think they are spot on! lol!

  2. I wouldnt believe the result of internet IQ tests. If youve always been at the top of your peer group then Im sure your IQ is higher than 113.

Over the years Ive done a couple of IQ tests on the internet and have score between 125-144. Im reasonably sure im in the top ..% of the population and dont need some internet IQ test to prove it.

If youre really upset, and i can understand why you are, have you thought about maybe joining mensa or doing a properly controlled IQ test?

  3. chill dude . its not about the iq its about how hard you work and how much you really care about school work . besides internet iq test arent very reliable at all . i have an iq of 142 which is supposivley very high but it wasnt until recently that ive been doing well in school . it has nothing to do with my iq ( all though that does help) it has to do with the fact that i love astronomy now. i wouldnt stress too much about an internet iq test those are all scams

  4. not very!

  5. neither it is too hard nor they are too easy , just take some more tests then u will find that ur score will increase gradually.

  6. Theey are extreemly rliable,!`ev got a diplamo from the wun I

tuke, it oopned many doros for me that wood haev renamed

colsed if i did not haev a diplamo.

  7. Well if it was a MENSA IQ test then it should be more accurate.

To be honest I wouldn't trust a internet test that much, if you really want one you can arrange to have a proper one through the MENSA website.

On internet IQ tests I have had scores varying between 120 - 164 so they are hardly accurate.

  8. take a mensa iq test. they are very reliable and also let you how at what percentile of the population you are. you have to bet in the top 2% to get in.

  9. they're not very!

my brother did a proper one and he came out as average for his age and when he did one on the internet it said he was like genius or something - which can not be possible lol

ive done proper ones and internet ones and they're like opposite outcomes !

    i wouldnt trust them

  10. Unless you know the scale of the original test and the scale used for the internet test is the same, dont worry.

Its completely useless to try and compare an IQ score to a different scale as the ceiling score for some (weschler) can be 160, where the equivilant on another scale is somewhere in the region of 180.

Internet tests themselves can be rather unreliable and if you really require an accurate test, go see a psychologist or take a test for MENSA etc.

Marks mean virtually nothing with intelligence, you can be as intelligent as you like, but without drive and motivation to succees you won't get anywhere.

Likewise, if you work your socks off you can achieve.

Remember, intelligence testes were originally designed to find people with below average intelligence- not above!!And, you can never be sure with intelligence tests exactly WHAT they are measuring.

Do they measure your intelligence really, or are they just measuring how well you can take intelligence tests?

As long as you are happy being you, work as hard as you can without working yourself into the ground, your IQ shouldn't matter.

    Best Wishes,

    Samantha.

  11. You don't have anything to worry about.  Most IQ tests, especially online ones, are very unreliable.  I've scored as low as 121, and as high as 165!  I don't believe any of my scores.  Use your SAT/ACT scores as a reference point.  You probably did better than me.  I didn't even go to college.
