How reliable are shoulder harnesses on roller coasters?

Is it possible for the harness to pop open during the ride?

I read once before that the energy of a roller coaster can keep you on the seat even if it goes through a loop.True?

I'm trying to get over my fear of roller coasters and I really want to go on a loop coaster but I keep getting this thought in my mind that I'm going to fall out.

  1. You will probably fall out.

    It happens all the time.

  2. Well, they are very reliable. But one suggestion.... If you want to get over your fear of rollercoasters, don't look up scary rollercoaster facts lol.

  3. I don't think you have anything to worry about :-) The shoulder harnesses are very reliable, I've never heard of one coming off. And there are seat belts on rides too, to hold you in just in case something would happen to the shoulder harnesses. Also, the energy of the roller coaster will keep you in place if the shoulder harness wasn't working (because of the centripetal force I believe??) If you think about, riding a roller coaster is probably hundreds or even thousands of times safer than riding in a car on the way to get to an amusement park. Just try to relax and enjoy it :-)

  4. absolutely not. well, technically, it is possible, but it is sooooo rare and I doubt that that would happen at any well-known, trusted amusement park.  Also, yes, the force of the coaster will keep you in place, as long as your not going backwards. (which is fun, by the way) It is silly to be worried about falling out, trust me, I guarantee if you go on it, you will love it and want to go again. Also, if you end up being a coatser finatic, like me, try the Top Thrill Dragster and Millenium Force at Cedar Point in Sandusky, Ohio!!! Two of the best rides on the planet! coasters are AHMAZINGGGG! don't be scared. have fun and make the most out of your experience!

  5. Every coaster and thrill ride I have been on recently has a seat belt in addition to the lap bar, or a belt that comes up from the bottom of the seat and attaches to the bottom of the shoulder harness. The rides are equipped this way in the rare but horrible chance that your lap bar or shoulder harness would fail, so you will not fall out.

Which park are you wanting to visit? I know for a fact that Cedar Point and Kings Island equip their coasters and thrill rides to have a safety belt along with the normal restraints.

There is no way in h**l I would ride the rides I have ridden if they were not equipped with an extra safety belt. I like the tallest fastest scream machines around, and if I am not properly secured, I will either move to another seat or I will not ride it.

If you are not sure if the coaster has a seat belt in addition to the regular harness or lap bar, ask someone who works at the park before you get on to ride.

I hope I helped you. Shannon obviously has not done her research. It does not happen "all the time." The few times it has happened are from when people decide to be stupid on the ride and ignore the posted safety regulations.

  6. first of all don't listen to Shannon, and trust me you will not fall out, and yes the force of the roller coaster will keep you in place even if it did break. the roller coasters are the best part of any theme park in my opinion and if you don't go on one you are really missing out on something,

  7. Sugah, your shoulder harness will NOT pop open while you are on the coaster. Furthermore, centrifugal force will keep you in your seat going through a loop.

Trust me, you will not fall out! The last time I was on a roller coaster, riding with my 4-year old daughter at Knotts Berry Farm in Los Angeles, there was an earthquake while we were on the ride, and did not know about the quake. No sweat at all.

    Regards,

    Dan

  8. oh cmon dont be ridiculous!!! you think the ride would be open if there was any chance of falling out? people are obsessed with safety these days!! and heres proof that u will stay in your seat through the loop even if it does pop open!
