I was thinking of getting Erie insurance but it is so cheap it sounds to good to be true. I have heard that they have really good rates but when you get in a crash that it is near impossible to get them to follow through and a complete hassle. Is this true? should I go with them and risk it? do they do that with the claims?

  1. I had Erie coverage for nearly 15 years, during that time I had maybe 3 or 4 claims in with them.  They weren't the cheapest for me however claims were simple.

I filed the claims by phone.  Each time I got 2 or 3 independent estimates for repairs on my own for my vehicle, faxed it to Erie and they just sent a check to do the repairs each time.  No hassle at all.

Another time my car was hit by a lady with another insurance company who denied responsibility.  Erie handled all the mediation for this case until I was paid for damages 10 months later by her company.

  2. I have Erie and unfortunately in the last year, I've made 2 auto claims and 1 homeowners claim. No problems at all! I think they were great! No problem getting anything paid, actually when the adjuster came out to inspect my car, she told me that body shop wasn't charging for enough labor hours, so she bumped the hours up so we wouldn't have to worry about any supplemental payments.

I had my money all three times, with in 4 days of making the claim. They are awesome!

  3. Erie is GREAT!  I had my personal insurance with them when I was up north.  I had my parents switch their personal insurance to Erie.

    I highly, highly recommend them.

It is NOT a hassle to do claims with them.

  4. If you're trying to get a claim paid by Erie, it is the worst company I have ever seen. My car was involved in an accident where Erie's client was cited and convicted of reckless driving and after 3 months Erie has still not determined that they are liable. What other evidence is needed? I never knew that you could tell your insurance company that it wasn't your fault and they would go by your word and not the conviction of a ticket.

  5. if your a judge - not very hard at all -- but Erie ins does have a rep making sure your policy and all claim related info had all the i's dotted and  the T's crossed before paying a claim except if you happen to be a Judge
